    Sujet
Autophagy is the process by which endogenous proteins and damaged organelles are destroyed intracellularly.autophagy is postulated to be essential for cell homeostasis and cell remodeling during differentiation, metamorphosis, non-apoptotic cell death, and aging. Reduced levels ofautophagy have been described in some malignant tumors, and a role forautophagy in controlling the unregulated cell growth linked to cancer has been proposed. GABARAP belongs ot a large family of proteins that mediate intracellular membrane trafficking and/or fusion. GABARAP binds not only to GABA, type A but also to tubulin, gephrin, and ULK1. May play a role in intracellular transport of GABA(A) receptors and its interaction with the cytoskeleton. It interacts with GPHN and NSF, interacts with GABRG2, beta-tubulin and ULK1.
Subcellular location: Intracytoplasmic membrane. Cytoplasm, cytoskeleton. Note: Largely associated with intracellular membrane structures including the Golgi apparatus and post-synaptic cisternae. Colocalizes with microtubules.
Tissue specificity: Heart, brain, placenta, liver, skeletal muscle, kidney and pancreas. Also known as: GABA(A) receptor-associated protein, MM46, GABARAP.
