DS-PB-00648 recognizes human Dickkopf (Xenopus laevis) homolog 1 (DKK1), a 35kDa to 50kDa member of the dickkopf family. It is expressed in the placenta, prostate and to a lesser extent, in the colon and spleen. DKK1 is secreted when expressed in 293T cells. DKK1 inhibits Wnt signalling in embryonic development, most likely acting upstream of frizzled. It is also thought to contribute to neoplastic processes, inhibit osteoblast differentiation and is associated with the presence of osteolytic bone lesions in patients with multiple myeloma.
