Sujet The Influenza virus nucleoprotein (nuclear capsid protein, NP) plays a major role with regard to host range or host species barriers for influenza A virus. At least two large classes of NP gene, human and non-human, have been classified by phylogenetic analysis and there is a high degree of sequence conservation within classes. NP protein functions include encapsidation of the virus genome for RNA transcription, replication and packaging, interaction with polypeptides in nuclear localization signals, direct interaction with viral polymerase for unprimed viral replication and cytotoxic T lymphocyte activation.
