Synonyms: REST corepressor 1 (Protein CoREST)
Target Description: REST Corepressor 1, CoREST or RCOR is encoded by the gene RCOR1 and is a member of the CoREST family of proteins. CoREST is a corepressor to the RE1 silencing transcription factor/neural restrictive silencing (REST) transcription factor and is part of a multiprotein complex (BHC complex) that represses transcription of neuron-specific genes in non-neuronal cells. This complex determines neural cell differentiation. CoREST is ubiquitously expressed in the nucleus of cells. Diseases associated with this gene include Huntington Disease and Loeys-Dietz Syndrome 1.
