Sujet
- Histone H2A is one of the core components of the nucleosome, the basic building block of chromatin. Unlike mammals that have a distinct DNA damage-responsive histone H2A variant, H2AX, budding yeast histone H2A contains an SQ motif in the C-terminus that is phosphorylated by the Mec1 and Tel1 kinases in response to DNA double strand breaks. As with mammalian H2AX phosphorylation, phosphorylation of yeast histone H2A at serine 129 is required for the efficient repair of DNA double-strand breaks.
