Sujet
- There are 4 main groups of receptors which bind the neurotransmitter serotonin: 5HT1, 5HT2 5HT3 and 5HT4. 5HT3B receptor is subunit B of the type 3 receptor for 5-hydroxytryptamine (serotonin). This receptor causes fast, depolarizing responses in neurons after activation. It appears that the heteromeric combination of A and B subunits is necessary to provide the full functional features of this receptor, since either subunit alone results in receptors with very low conductance and response amplitude. Through interactions with these receptors, serotonin is able to exert a wide variety of physiological functions. 5HT3 receptors are cation-selective transmitter-gated ion channels. 5HT3B receptor mutations have been implicated in depression.Synonyms: 5-HT3-B, 5-HT3B, 5-hydroxytryptamine receptor 3B
