Sujet: Inhibin alpha (INHA) are dimeric glycoproteins that are structurally and functionally related to transforming growth factor-beta and are composed of 1 Alpha-subunit and 1 of 2 beta-subunits (betaA or betaB). Inhibin, first identified as a hormone regulating pituitary FSH secretion, later recognized to act as a tumor suppressor in the gonad and adrenal glands. INHA are involved in regulating a number of diverse functions such as hypothalamic and pituitary hormone secretion, gonadal hormone secretion, germ cell development and maturation, erythroid differentiation, insulin secretion, nerve cell survival, embryonic axial development or bone growth, depending on their subunit composition. Inhibins play important roles in normal gonadal function, including regulation of proliferation, differentiation, and steroidogenesis of Leydig and Sertoli cells via paracrine and autocrine processes.
