IL-38 (aa 20-152) is released from apoptotic cells to limit inflammatory macrophage and downstream Th17 activation by blocking IL1RAPL1 (Interleukin-1 receptor accessory protein-like 1, TIGIRR-2) signaling. IL-38 is unregulated during some autoimmune diseases such as Systemic Lupus Erythematosus.
