Synonyms: Tetraspanin-12, Tspan-12, Tetraspan NET-2, Transmembrane 4 superfamily member 12, TSPAN12, NET2, TM4SF12, UNQ774/PRO1568
Tissue Specificity: Expressed in testis, in Sertoli cells, ejaculated spermatozoa and in seminal fluid (at protein level).
Background: Tetraspanin-12 (Tspan-12) also known as tetraspan NET-2 (NET2) or transmembrane 4 superfamily member 12 (TM4SF12) is a tetraspanin protein that in humans is encoded by the TSPAN12 gene. The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the transmembrane 4 superfamily, also known as the tetraspanin family. Most of these members are cell-surface proteins that are characterized by the presence of four hydrophobic domains. The proteins mediate signal transduction events that play a role in the regulation of cell development, activation, growth and motility.
