    Sujet

Protein Function: Has some calmodulin-like activity with respect to enzyme activation and growth regulation. Binds two calcium ions.

Background: Oncomodulin, also known as OCM, is an oncodevelopmental protein found in early embryonic cells in the placenta and also in tumors. The human gene for oncomodulin is located on chromosome 7. It is a parvalbumin- family calcium-binding protein expressed and secreted by macrophages that typically traffic to tissue as an inflammatory response or after injury. Oncomodulin promotes axon regeneration in retinal ganglion cells and maintains functioning in mouse cochlear hair cells.

    Synonyms: Oncomodulin-1,OM,Parvalbumin beta,OCM,OCM1, OCMN,

    Full Gene Name: Oncomodulin-1
