Two major subtypes of NPY receptor (Y1 and Y2) have been defined by pharmacological criteria. NPY1R and NPY2R encoding mouse type 1 and type 2 neuropeptide Y receptors, have been mapped by interspecific backcross analysis. NPY1R is required for central physiological and pharmacological NPY-induced analgesia and that its activation is both sufficient and required for the release of substance P and initiation of neurogenic inflammation.Synonyms: NPYR, NPYY1, Neuropeptide Y receptor 1
