Sujet
- Zona Occludens or tight junctions are plasma membrane structures that seal together the perimeters of polarized epithelial cell monolayers and provide the cellular barrier necessary to maintain vectoral secretion, absorption and transport, often defining luminal and intracellular space. Four tight junction specific proteins have been identified (ZO1, ZO2, ZO3 and occludin). ZO1 was the first protein shown to be specifically associated with the tight junction and remains the standard marker for these structures.Synonyms: Tjp1, Zo1, Zona occludens protein 1, Zonula occludens protein 1
