    Background: Prenylcysteine oxidase 1 is an enzyme that in humans is encoded by the PCYOX1 gene. Prenylcysteine is released during the degradation of prenylated proteins. PCYOX1 catalyzes the degradation of prenylcysteine to yield free cysteines and a hydrophobic isoprenoid product.
