Description: Recombinant full length human GPC3 protein.
Background: Glypican 3, GPC3 is a member of the glypican family that are heparan sulfate proteoglycans that bind to the exocytoplasmic surface of the plasma membrane through a covalent glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI) linkage. GPC3 gene contains 8 exons and encompasses approximately 500 kb. It encodes a putative extracellular proteoglycan, glypican 3, that is inferred to play an important role in growth control in embryonic mesodermal tissues in which it is selectively expressed. GPC3 acts as a negative regulator of Hedgehog signaling during mammalian development and that the overgrowth observed in SGBS (Simpson-Golabi-Behmel overgrowth syndrome) patients is, at least in part, the consequence of hyperactivation of the Hedgehog signaling pathway.
