Sujet: Background: ERCC5 is a single-stranded DNA endonuclease involved in DNA excision repair. ERCC5 is an important component of the nucleotide excision repair (NER) pathway which is critical to the repair of DNA lesions caused by exposure to UV light. Defects in ERCC5 are the cause of xeroderma pigmentosum, an autosomal recessive disease characterized by a hypersensitivity to sunlight and a high predisposition to cancer on UV-exposed areas.
