- Sujet
- Endothelial lipase (EL or EDL) is a member of the triglyceride lipase gene family, which includes lipoprotein lipase and hepatic lipase. These family members play a crucial role in the metabolism of lipids. Compared to other family members, EL exhibits mainly phospholipase activity and little triglyceride lipase activity. EL is produced mainly by vascular endothelial cells but also by macrophages, smooth muscle cells, and hepatocytes. The overexpression of endothelial lipase has been shown to reduce HDL cholesterol levels and the deficiency of EL appears to elevate HDL cholesterol levels in animals.Synonyms: EC=3.1.1.3, EDL, EL, Endothelial cell-derived lipase, Endothelial lipase, LIPG
