Sujet: Background: Defects in XPC are a cause of xeroderma pigmentosum complementation group C, a rare autosomal recessive diseased characterized by hypersensitivity to sunlight and an elevated risk of skin cancer on sun-exposed areas. XPC is involved in nucleotide excision repair and performs its function as part of a heterodimeric complex with HHR23B. XPC has been found to play a role in the early stages of repair that involve incising damaged DNA.
