- Fonction
- EF-2 is a protein encoded by the EEF2 gene which is approximately 95,3 kDa. EF-2 is localised to the cytoplasm and nucleus. It is involved in AMP-activated protein kinase signalling, viral mRNA translation, the innate immune system and the HIV life cycle. This protein falls under the GTP-binding translation elongation factor family. Its function is to catalyse the GTP dependent ribosomal translocation step during translation elongation. This involves the translocation of the nascent protein chain from the A-site to the P-site of the ribosome. EF-2 is expressed in the nervous system, liver, intestine, blood and lung. Mutations in the EEF2 gene may result in spinocerebellar ataxia and diphtheria. STJ91030 was affinity-purified from rabbit antiserum by affinity-chromatography using epitope-specific immunogen. This primary antibody specifically binds to endogenous EF-2 protein which only binds about T56 when T56 is phosphorylated.
