    Sujet
BMAL1 is a putative transcription factor involved in the generation of biological rhythms. It activates cycling transcription of Period (PER) and Timeless (TIM) by binding to the E-box (3'-CACGTG-5') present in their promoters. BMAL1 gene cyc mutants don't display PER and TIM cycling, and are completely arrhythmic. Efficient DNA binding requires dimerization with another bHLH protein, BMAL1 forms a heterodimer with Clock in order to activate PER and TIM transcription.Synonyms: Aryl hydrocarbon receptor nuclear translocator-like protein 1, BHLHE5, Basic-helix-loop-helix-PAS protein MOP3, Brain and muscle ARNT-like 1, Class E basic helix-loop-helix protein 5, MOP3, Member of PAS protein 3, PAS domain-containing protein 3, PASD3, bHLH-PAS protein JAP3, bHLHe5
