The activation is rapid and specific, and is abrogated by mutations in the pleckstrin homology domain of AKT1. AKT1 gene is mapped to chromosome 14q32.3. Akt1/protein kinase B-alpha is critical for ischemic and VEGF-mediated angiogenesis.
